Overcoming Your Avoidance Tendencies
In life, we all encounter many obstacles and barriers – no one is immune. These challenges can either stop you in your tracks or they can become building blocks to propel you to new heights. We’ve designed a series of PEP Talks to help overcome some of the different themes that run in the background and are controlling your every step. Now you can access these simple step-by-step strategies which when implemented have profound results to give a new direction, clarity and momentum required so you can go the distance.
We approach every PEP Talk like a new adventure. First, we’re going to Navigate and then Recalibrate. Navigation tells us where we are at present. It shows us our course and requires science and skill, as well as planning and prioritization to get from A to B most efficiently and effectively. Some people are thrown off course by a shocking event. For others, it’s a slow drift. Either way, Recalibration helps us get back on course – ALIGN’D is that compass.
Every one of us has things we say we want to do but don’t. If you could’ve, you already would’ve—like already—like five years ago. We understand that sometimes we all need a hand, and that might be encouragement or guidance. In fact, if you tell non-judgmental people who value your goals, you’re more likely to follow through and accomplish them. It’s not always about discipline or willpower. You’re not lazy, pathetic, or lame. You simply have a barrier in the way and you may not even know what that is nor can you hide from it.
Avoidance becomes the big pink elephant in the room – that we’re not doing what we know we should be doing – we are a nation that is often eating, sleeping, exercising, doing relationships, learning and “careering” poorly. We want to change – but most often we don’t know what’s in the way. We have not been taught to access that or how to approach difficult situations with confidence. Often, we sidestep conflicts by blaming someone or something else OR by putting our heads in the sand – out of sight, out of mind. The Align’d Approach helps us prioritize – to focus on what to do and when to do it, so we can complete the actions in a healthy, efficient and effective manner.
We’ll walk you through step by step. You can listen to the Audio, or if you prefer reading, jump right into the lessons starting with the Navigate section but both are available to you at your leisure.
